Austria to help Slovakia with refugees

If the influx of refugees from Ukraine to Slovakia increases, Austria is ready to help Slovakia, said Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová after a phone call with her Austrian counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen on Wednesday. Our joint effort must be primarily aimed at aid for Ukraine and solidarity with people driven out of their homes by the war, said the Slovak president. "Russia's unprovoked invasion and aggression against Ukraine is still a shock for the citizens of both of our countries. We discussed individual steps that we have taken together as the European Union, including very strong sanctions against Russian President Putin's regime. We agreed that both our countries need energy independence from Russia," posted Čaputová on a social network.

However, first and foremost, the people of Ukraine who have fled their homeland in the face of the war must be helped, stated Čaputová adding that "Putin wanted to divide Europe, but he has achieved its unification".
