EU Presidents call for Ukraine's accession to EU

Slovak President Zuzana Caputova along with seven other presidents of European Union member states called for a prompt accession of Ukraine into the EU in an open letter addressed to the EU. The letter calls on the EU to provide maximum political support to Kyiv and enable the EU institutions to take steps necessary for the launch of accession talks without delay. The letter was signed by the presidents of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. The Slovak president posted on Twitter earlier on Monday that "Ukraine is Europe, and it should be in the European Union. It's about time." Ukrainian president Volodymir Zelensky in a video call on Monday asked the European Union to allow Ukraine's immediate accession under a new special procedure.
