Bratislava's Old Town takes measures against Russian Embassy

Changing the status of parking places that were reserved for the Russian Embassy in Bratislava's Old Town and the possibility of renaming the street on which the embassy is located (currently Godrova Street) are only a few of the measures that the local council district is planning to take in connection with current events in Ukraine. At the same time, the Old Town will no longer inform the embassy about public rallies due to take place in front of the embassy in the future. The Russian Embassy was the only embassy to be given such notifications. "The first measure to be taken is withdrawing a favour that the Russian Federation was granted based on its request in April 2018 when it asked, above the framework of other embassies, to be informed about public rallies due to take place in front of the embassy. This favour is ending as of today," Old Town mayor Zuzana Aufrichtova told a news conference on Monday.  The local district is also changing the status of the parking places in front of the embassy that were reserved for it. The space with its five parking places will thus become available to the general public again. Under a third measure, the Old Town is launching the process of renaming a public space. One street might be renamed, for example, Boris Nemtsov Street (after a Russian politician critical of Vladimir Putin, who was murdered). Some other public spaces in the neighbourhood might be renamed as well.
