WW2 memorial of fallen Soviet Soldiers defaced in Kosice

The WW2 memorial of fallen Soviet soldiers at the Namestie Osloboditelov (Liberators' Square) in Kosice has been painted blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, by an unknown perpetrator. "The city of Kosice, the owner of the memorial, has suffered as-of-yet unspecified material damage as a result," said Kosice regional police spokesperson Lenka Ivanova. The police apprehended a suspect, who was escorted to a holding cell. "Due to the ongoing investigation, it's not possible to release more details about the case," added Ivanova. The Soviet Red Army that liberated Slovakia at the end of WW2 contained also Ukrainian soldiers, pointed out the police.
