Slovakia has become one of the first countries in the European Union where Brussels has released EU funds for the new programming period. Slovakia may thus from tomorrow begin drawing funds for the period 2014 to 2020.
Despite the economic downturn, over the next seven years this package offers Slovakia €15.3 billion of EU funds to spend; a rise of nearly four billion euro in comparison to the previous period (2007 to 2013). This sum has been made possible due to partnership agreements made by the European Commission a few days ago. Funds are already being earmarked for increases in scientific research, road & highway infrastructure, replacing tram lines in Bratislava, and even the creation of 3,100 new jobs according to an interim report from the Slovak Ministry of Economy (MoE SR).
