Slovak MFA hands protest note to Russian embassy

The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) on Tuesday (February 22) handed a protest note to the Russian Embassy in Bratislava expressing Slovakia's rejection of Russia's decision to recognise the independence of separatist entities in eastern Ukraine, TASR has learnt from MFA.

"The Slovak Republic views this decision by the Russian Federation, a signatory to the Minsk Agreements, as a clear violation of international law and the Minsk Agreements, which provide for the full return of the territories under Ukrainian control. It is also a violation of UN Security Council resolution 2202, which approved the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements," reads the protest note.

MFA further states that this step is in direct contradiction with Russia's declared interest in seeking a constructive solution to the conflict via diplomatic dialogue, and with the principle of the indivisibility of security "that Russia itself has been stressing and demanding that NATO and the EU should respect," stated the ministry.
