The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) on Monday presented the first mobile hydrogen filling station in Slovakia on the premises of transport company Arriva Trnava. The station will be used to refuel two passenger hydrogen cars procured for the purpose of presenting hydrogen technologies in transport. The launch of the filling station was attended by Economy Minister Richard Sulik (SaS) and SIEA general director Peter Blaskovits.
"It's the result of a year's work, proof that we're serious about hydrogen," said the agency's head, adding that SIEA, as one of the members of the National Hydrogen Association, has been actively cooperating in preparing the National Hydrogen Strategy since the beginning and is currently participating in developing an action plan. As part of its activities, it wants to strengthen awareness among the professional and lay public about hydrogen and thus contribute towards expanding hydrogen technologies in Slovakia.
Economy Minister Sulik stated that the National Hydrogen Strategy is a framework for further activities in this area. According to him, it won't be possible to carry out bold plans in environmental protection without hydrogen. The action plan, which will soon be submitted for an inter-ministerial comments procedure and subsequently to the Government, speaks of real steps. "It won't be easy, especially if it's carried out with EU funds. I hope that maybe this year or next we'll have specific plans to use hydrogen. For example, we'd like to equip a smaller town with hydrogen buses. A large solar park is being prepared, where green hydrogen is to be produced," he said.
According to the minister, steps such as Monday's launch of the filling station should contribute towards realising a vision that by 2030 the use of hydrogen in Slovakia will increase significantly not only in industry, gas and heat management, but also in transport.
