Slovakia is currently at the peak of the pandemic wave caused by the omicron variant of coronavirus. Matej Misik of the Health Analyses Institute stated on Wednesday that the first signs of stabilisation or even a decrease in the number of new cases has been registered. He noted that high numbers of people are still being tested positive for COVID-19 in Slovakia, however. According to Misik, almost 2,500 people with COVID-19 are currently in Slovak hospitals. In addition, the percentage of school staff and students tested positive for novel coronavirus has fallen when compared to last week, said Education Minister Branislav Groehling following the Government meeting on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Groehling is pleased that individual home isolation for pupils will also be adjusted. Home isolation that follows contact with a positive pupil in a classroom is expected to be cancelled, as the antipandemic measures are to be eased towards the end of February.
