Courts find conditioning visiting establishments on vaccination certificates constitutional

The Constitutional Court ruled on Wednesday that a recent amendment to the Public Health Act that allows the Public Health Authority to condition entering establishments and visiting mass events by presenting COVID-19 vaccination certificates or negative test results is not at odds with the Constitution. The amendment was challenged in court by the opposition Smer-SD party, which opined that it was unconstitutional. According to the Constitutional Court, restricting unvaccinated individuals is justified in particular by the numerous cases of severe courses of COVID-19 and the associated burden on the health care system to an extent that threatens the system of health care delivery for everyone, and therefore the protection of public health as such.
