Monuments to go dark in protest

In protest against the amendment to the construction law, lights will be turned off at monuments across Slovakia, including World Unesco heritage sites, on Tuesday evening and black flags will be raised on the buildings. Monument preservationists and activists want to draw attention to the fact that the amendment to the law will turn monument authorities into building authorities. According to experts, the new building law threatens to bury monument care and with it Slovakia’s cultural heritage.
