Foodstuffs that are defective and dangerous are imported to Slovakia mostly from Poland, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Samuel Vlcan declared after a session of the House Committee for Agriculture and Environment. The Committee convened for an extraordinary session over a report issued by the Polish Supreme Audit Authority, which established that Polish foodstuffs are the most dangerous within the EU. Vlcan warned that the results of the Polish authority are of significant gravity. Based on these developments, Vlcan called on the public to reconsider buying foodstuffs in Poland.
The minister also contacted Interior Minister Roman Mikulec and Finance Minister Igor Matovic in this context. "We will allocate additional personnel and financial resources to carry out eight times as many inspections in the future than we do today," he claimed. According to MP Jarmila Halgasova, who sits on the committee, the issue of Polish foodstuffs concerns Slovakia quite closely, as Poland is the second largest supplier of foodstuffs to Slovakia.
