The Sitina tunnel in Bratislava will be closed for 54 hours from 10 p.m. on Friday, February 25 until 4 a.m. on Monday, February 28. The National Highway Company announced that the closure will be done due to the need to replace the tunnel's central control system. A detour route for transit traffic will go via Mlynska Dolina, while passenger cars will be diverted via the borough of Karlova Ves. Police officers will help to direct traffic. This will involve major traffic restrictions, as the tunnel is the busiest in Slovakia. Company’s board member Peter Petko warned that the closure would affect traffic throughout the Slovak capital. No such closure has taken place since the tunnel was open, and Petko called for people to avoid non-essential travel on that weekend.
