It is important to show solidarity with Ukraine, our immediate neighbour, in this tense situation, Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok said during his two-day visit to the eastern European country on Monday. Before leaving for Ukraine, Korčok published on a social network a picture in which he is on board the Czech government plane together with his counterparts from the Slavkov format (S3) - Czech Foreign Affairs Minister Jan Lipavský and Austrian Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Schallenberg.
"Today we'll visit the east of the country, particularly Stanytsia Luhanska - a small town on the contact line in the Luhansk region, to familiarise ourselves with the situation on the spot. Our visit will continue tomorrow with talks in Kiev," said Korčok.
Russia has placed tens of thousands of soldiers near the Ukrainian border over the past couple of weeks. However, Moscow denies an alleged invasion and demands security guarantees from the West.
