According to Greenpeace Slovakia, the inclusion of natural gas and nuclear power among sustainable energy sources makes a mockery of climate commitments. On Wednesday, the European Commission labelled nuclear and gas as sustainable. Critics across Europe are calling the step "greenwashing". Slovak MEPs are also not united on this topic. Martin Hojsík of the liberal Renew Europe faction described the European Commission's decision as a victory for the pro-gas and pro-nuclear lobbies, losing the recommendations of experts, scientists and those fighting for climate protection. Robert Hajšel from the Socialists and Democrats faction is convinced that Slovakia can be satisfied with the inclusion of nuclear and natural gas among transitional sustainable energy sources. "Even if the green radicals don't like it because nuclear and gas are not really green sources, it will certainly help at least half of the EU, including Slovakia, to accelerate decarbonisation," Hajšel said.
