On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok together with Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď paid their tribute to the distinguished Slovak diplomat Štefan Osuský at his memorial in Washington, D.C.. Štefan Osuský as a co-author of the Cleveland Agreement, co-shaped the American concept of the post-war order of Europe and, together with other compatriots in the USA, helped to fulfil the right of Slovaks and Czechs to self-determination. Subsequently, as ambassador in London and Paris, he sought to build a reputation for the young state, which he capitalized on in the Paris diplomatic negotiations. The result was the demarcation of the Czechoslovak borders by the Treaty of Trianon, which he signed together with Foreign Minister Edvard Beneš. The foreign and defence ministers are on a working trip to the US, where they are to sign a defence cooperation agreement with representatives of the government there.
