New modern sirens as part of an early warning system have been installed in 34 towns and villages in eastern areas of the Kosice Region as part of the Slovak-Ukrainian inter-border co-operation project that is budgeted at €1.6 million and financed from EU funds, said Interior Ministry crisis management department general director Lenka Hmirova on Thursday.
“The main purpose of the project is to improve services for people, as far as the early warning system is concerned as well as communications with individual state bodies tasked with addressing extraordinary events,” Hmirova told reporters. A total of 61 sirens have been installed, 36 on Slovak side of the border and 25 in Ukraine. EU funds covered 90 percent of the project costs.
