SAC to send 200 books to Afghanistan for local students

Slovakia is supporting the education of Afghan students as part of the Books for Afghanistan project, said Juraj Hajko of the Slovak Atlantic Commission (SAC) on Thursday.

The initiative was created during the GLOBSEC 2014 international forum, where a book collection was organised under the auspices of Afghan State Secretary for Education and Youth Taimoor Shah Eshaqzai in co-operation with the Slovak Defence Ministry, Kabul University and the Afghan Culture Ministry. “The GLOBSEC organisers initiated a book collection with the aim of supporting the education of young people in Afghanistan and also of enriching the library in Kabul with books that are hard to find in Afghanistan. The project is also designed to boost interest among Afghan students in the study of foreign languages,” said international conference manager Milan Solar. The collected total of 200 books will be handed over by Slovak soldiers in Afghanistan in the next few days.
