Michal Simecka in charge of democracy and human rights in European Parliament

Slovak MEP Michal Simecka, who was elected European Parliament Vice-president on January 18, will be in charge of democracy and human rights. As Simecka himself told TASR on Monday, his portfolio will also include audits, gender equality and research activities of the EP. EP President Roberta Metsola has agreed with her 14 vice-presidents on a division of the agendas for which they will be responsible. This was preceded by bilateral meetings, as well as the first joint meeting of the new EP leadership. According to Simecka, democracy and human rights are areas in which he has been engaged since the beginning of his mandate. Simecka will also be a member of the EP High-level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity. Simecka was elected EP Vice-president in mid-January. He was nominated as a candidate by the Renew Europe (RE) liberal faction.
