Zuzana Batova is ending in the post of head of the State Institute for Drug Control as of February. She will be replaced by Peter Potucek, who will head the institute until the regular selection proceedings for the post are completed. Batova became publically known when the Institute drafted an independent assessment of the non-registered Sputnik vaccine and refused to approve its use in Slovakia without missing information from the producer. Batova faced unprecedented media and political pressure over the assessment, both at home and abroad. In November of 2021, she was presented with the White Crow award for showing courage and defending the public good.
