Three banks in Slovakia, namely VUB, Tatra banka and Slovenska sporitelna, have joined the instant-payment system, and this service is available for their clients as of Tuesday. The Slovak Central Bank sees Tuesday's launch of the system in Slovakia as a historic milestone, as it will significantly speed up payments. Central banks payment systems expert Peter Holicka explained that one of the advantages is that the system can work as quickly even for cross-border transactions if the given bank abroad is part of the system. Currently, banks from 26 European countries are involved. At the same time, it wil not be possible to make use of instant payments at points of sale, such as stores, for instance, for the time being.
