Murdered Kuciak and Kušnírová to have memorial in capital

The late investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, who were murdered in 2018, will have a memorial in downtown Bratislava on the SNP square. According to the head of the parliamentary culture and media committee Kristian Čekovský, the provisional memorial site dedicated to the couple will be replaced by an actual memorial within several weeks.

Kuciak and Kušnírová were murdered on February 21, 2018 in their house in the village of Veľká Mača, Trnava Region. Subsequently, mass protests took place across Slovakia. In reaction to them, then Prime Minister Robert Fico stepped down and was replaced by Peter Pellegrini. Moreover, then Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, head of Police Corps Tibor Gašpar and several other politicians and people in the police left their posts.
