Representatives of the Medical Unions Association (LOZ) are once again urging the Prime Minister Eduard Heger to meet them and hear out their demands regarding the situation in the health sector, said LOZ head Peter Visolajský. According to him, this is the consensus reached within LOZ at its Friday (January 28) session. "Health professionals are reportedly considering to repeat the mass filing of notices, as was the case back in 2011," he claimed.
The LOZ declared that the situation seen in the Slovak health system is critical and has gone unaddressed by the Government. The unionists also believe that the approved health reform not only fails to deal with the problems, but even exacerbates them further.
"Unfortunately, the only response from Slovak politicians to the deteriorating situation in our health sector and the critical shortage of doctors and nurses in Slovakia was the approved bill on the enforced work of health personnel that can be ordered even outside of the emergency state," said Visolajský. He added that such measure fly in the face of policies adopted by other countries. "This only exposes our health system to a further drain of doctors and nurses from Slovakia." In the first 9 months of 2021, approximately 800 nurses left the Slovak health system.
On Monday, in reaction to the situation, Ľubica Janíková, spokesperson of Prime Minister Eduard Heger said that the PM plans to invite representatives of the Medical Trade Union Association (LOZ) for talks in the near future.
