Slovakia and the Netherlands enjoy strong bilateral ties, the prime ministers of both countries, Eduard Heger and Mark Rutte, concurred at their joint press conference in Bratislava on Thursday. Heger called the Netherlands the biggest investor in Slovakia and professed Bratislava's interest to act as its ally in central Europe. The Netherlands runs investments in a number of Slovak sectors, including financial services, technologies, metal and plastic processing and the food industry. Rutte noted that the volume of investments is growing, which helps strengthen the bilateral ties even more.

Heger pointed out that the Netherlands is an attractive destination for Slovak students, a fact that might create the leeway also for "improving our own universities". He claimed that Amsterdam subscribes to the same views regarding the issue of nuclear power and also discussed with Rutte ways to reach the carbon neutrality while employing nuclear energy.
