Regional bus transport in Bratislava region will continue to be provided free of charge in February, Bratislava region said on Thursday. The cost-free transportation concerns only regional transport provided by Arriva. The regional bus transport in Bratislava region has been provided for free in January to compensate passengers for the Arriva buses that have not run. The region said that the cost-free regional transport is being paid for out of the fine which the region imposed on Arriva for not being able to provide a sufficient number of buses since it started operating in Bratislava region in November 2021.
"For every single day when the operator was unable to provide a transport service reaching at least 95 percent of the one on the timetables, the regional authority fines Arriva €30,000. This makes €930,000 for one month of operation," said Bratislava Region governor Juraj Droba in December 2021.
