PM Eduard Heger convenes Security Council session over situation in Ukraine

Prime Minister Eduard Heger on Tuesday convened an extraordinary session of the Security Council to address the situation in Ukraine, TASR learnt from the Government Office on the same day.

Tensions between Russia and the West have grown in recent weeks over Russian troop movements close to Ukraine's border. Moscow has denied claims that it’s planning to invade Ukraine, however.

US President Joe Biden discussed the situation with European leaders on Monday. He stressed that the USA shares the EU’s stance on the issue of the Russian threat to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, chief of Slovak diplomacy Ivan Korcok declared that Slovakia sees no reason to evacuate its diplomats from Kiev even with the current tensions prevailing on the eastern Ukrainian border.

"On the contrary, the presence (of diplomats) is important because it confirms our capability to effectuate a political solution. The diplomatic presence has its indispensable place in it," claimed Korcok.
