Representatives of the municipalities located near Sliac airbase (Banska Bystrica region) intend to hand over a list of questions regarding possible impacts of the Defence Cooperation Agreement with the USA on the area to Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad on Friday. According to the mayor of Sliac, Lubica Balgova, the inhabitants of these towns and villages should be informed first, so that their concerns about the presence of foreign troops can be dispelled, as they still have a vivid memory of the most recent 'short-term' stay of Soviet troops in the area. She also believes that they deserve compensation for the reduced quality of life near the military airbase. According to the mayor, the information available to the people living in the region has been insufficient so far. A similar list of questions regarding the Defence Cooperation Agreement was addressed to Parliament recently by the mayors of Zvolen and Banska Bystrica.
