Roberta Metsola from Malta was elected the European Parliament President on Tuesday. A centre-wing European People's Party representative, she was a part of the EP delegation which visited Slovakia following the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova. According to Slovak MEP Vladimir Bilcik, Metsola is “familiar with fighting for freedom of speech and with the consequences of close ties between politicians and businessmen. As the MEP added, Slovakia and Malta has been united by the murders of journalists Jan Kuciak and Daphne Caruana Galizie respectively.
