Strong winds hit Slovakia on Monday. Earlier in the day, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office issued a wind alert for the entire country, particularly southwestern Slovakia. The strongest wind was recorded in Nitra. "It came quite close to ranking as a severe gale," the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office posted on its social network regarding the wind speed of 75 km/h. The meteorologists stated that the winds were strongest in Poprad and Nitra, with speeds of about 100 km/h. Katarina Krizanova of the Firefighter and Emergency Corps (HaZZ) Presidium reported that the most serious situation was seen in Bratislava and Trnava regions. The professional and volunteer firefighters were mostly clearing fallen trees off roads and parked cars, but in some cases also torn roofs.
