“It's important for the security of Slovakia to have an open dialogue with Russia and predictable ties, but for any sensible dialogue to take place, the tension at the Ukrainian border must be de-escalated first”, the chief of Slovak diplomacy Ivan Korcok (SaS nominee) declared after the NATO Council-Russia summit in Brussels on Wednesday. The aim of the talks was to hear out Russian proposals and convey the stances of NATO members and their concerns. As for the situation in Ukraine, Korcok underlined that "there are certain principles and requirements that are non-negotiable and cannot be bent". The Slovak diplomacy has been calling for respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova and the right of every state to make its own free choice about its foreign and security policy.
