Czech and Slovak premiers concur on need to expand mutual cooperation

Friendly ties between Slovakia and the Czech Republic must be bolstered even more and the existing cooperation extended, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger and his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala concurred at their meeting in Bratislava on Tuesday.

Fiala's first official foreign visit was to Slovakia, as is customary for Czech and Slovak top state officials. Heger underlined the importance of the Czech Republic as a political and economic partner for Bratislava and claimed that this mutual closeness should translate also into cooperation during the Czech Presidency in the Council of the EU, set to begin on July 1, 2022, and in the upcoming Slovak Presidency of the Visegrad Four group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and the Austerlitz Format (Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia). "It's an incredible opportunity to take the lead together at the same time and set the policy within these three formats, which is why we'll be closely cooperating in the articulating of priorities," claimed Heger.
