The Bratislava borough of Devínska Nová Ves will be sprayed against mosquitoes on Friday morning. The spraying will be carried out by ground based vehicles only, and will cover an area of approximately 900 hectares (9 square kilometres). The Bratislava city council is undertaking this move in response to critical levels of mosquito activity in this area.
“Other locations of the capital city are being monitored; recording increased numbers of mosquitoes overall. According to information directly from the field, the current situation could be considered dire”, said spokesperson for the Bratislava Mayoral Office Ľubomír Andrassy. The city council recommends not lingering near the locations where spraying is taking place, however they’re not concerned over issues affecting human health. “The spray used against mosquitoes is not considered dangerous to human health, but there should not be direct contact with the chemicals used”, said Andrassy. He added that the spraying of other Bratislava localities could take place, depending on the information received from experts and cooperation with local councils.
