On Monday, in reaction to extensive criticism from representatives of culture, the government approved the loosening of restrictions at mass events. They could host vaccinated people and those who recovered from covid-19 in the last 6 months - the so called OP regime. The coalition recommended Slovak chief hygienist Ján Mikas to immediately approve a decree, which would divide the events into three categories: low risk, medium risk and high risk events.
Low risk events are those where people wear a respirator, consume no food, have compulsory seating and there is no singing. Here, the government recommends a maximum attendance of 100 people or up to 50% of capacity.
Medium risk events are those where people wear respirators and standing is allowed. In this case 100 people should be allowed or up to 25% of capacity.
High risk events are those with a limited wearing of respirator where people can consume food – for example - weddings, funerals, celebrations, parties, balls, discos. For these a maximum of 20 people and a list of participants is mandatory.
Moreover, for the upcoming 2022 European Championship in handball, which Slovakia is hosting together with Hungary, an attendance of maximum 25% of capacity is allowed. The Championship is set to take place from January 13 to January 30.
