The biggest challenge for Slovakia for 2022 is improving trust in the state of law, stated the director of the Via Iuris civic association Katarína Batková. According to her, the new prosecutor general is failing in achieving this goal so far, in spite of having ambitions in this regard. The future development of the cases which include former top representatives of the police, justice system and top prosecutors are important as the public is very interested in them. Batková sees the completion of the reform of the justice system as another challenge.
One of the factors, which affect trust in the state of law, is the adoption of pandemic restrictions. “Unfortunately, these are often confusing, published very late, people do not have time to get familiar with them and prepare for them. This approach from the side of government and competent bodies can weaken people’s trust in institutions and the state of law,” added Batková.
