The operation of the working group to restore confidence in the rule of law has been suspended, said Slovak PM Eduard Heger. He added the Government would resume it as soon as it manages the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
The PM claims that some of the measures proposed by the working group have already been implemented, such as the issue of the Police Corps president's election. According to Heger, the working group to restore confidence in the rule of law is in second place in the Government's hierarchy of important matters, just behind the pandemic.
The working group was set up last September by the Security Council in relation to the situation in law-enforcement bodies. It was supposed to prepare concrete proposals for changes to improve the functioning of the courts, police and prosecutor's office. Heger in late September said that the working group had prepared 17 specific proposals. He later said that the Government would announce them once a political agreement has been reached on the entire package of proposals.
