The Slovak operator Eustream has not detected any drop in pressure or in the volume of gas flows coming from Ukraine to the EU at its Velke Kapušany compression station, according to a statement on the company website on Tuesday afternoon.
It reacted to news broken by the Reuters, AP, and RIA Novosti news agencies, according to which Russia's Gazprom is to halt gas flows to Ukraine because Ukrainian company Naftogaz had failed to pay at least a portion of its gas debt by the set deadline. According to Eustream’s spokesperson Vahram Chuguryan , the company is ready to provide 23.8 million cubic metres of gas from Austria and 67 million cubic metres from the Czech Republic daily via reverse flows. "These are declared technical peak values that the Slovak gas carrier will meet”, he said. Also under consideration is the Slovak-Hungarian interconnection; the Slovak infrastructure for which has been completed. "The new pipeline could serve for emergency supplies to Hungary, but the fast-tracked completion of work on the Hungarian side is called for”, he claimed.
