Majority of Slovaks willing to pay only 10% more for clean energy

More than half of Slovaks are willing to pay 10 percent more for energy if it led to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, with one-third willing to accept energy and heating bills 25 percent higher. This according to the results of a survey conducted by the AKO agency on behalf of the Slovak Gas and Oil Association (SPNZ).

"Slovaks are aware that it's necessary to pay more for cleaner energy, but only to a certain extent. The putting into effect of measures under the Fit for 55 package, set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent in the EU by 2030, in its current form would call for much steeper bills. Only seven percent of Slovaks are willing to pay more than 25 percent," warned SPNZ executive director Richard Kvasnovsky. The survey was carried out in October on a sample of 1,000 respondents.
