Weaker economic performance expected in the near term

The performance of the economy is expected to be weaker in the near term. In addition to a shortage of components in industry, which appears to be more acute than was expected in the autumn, the unfavourable pandemic situation in Slovakia is also playing a role. This was one of the conclusions of the material Economic and Monetary Development–Winter 2021, which was presented by representatives of the Central Bank of Slovakia (NBS) at a press conference on Tuesday.

At the same time, the performance of the Slovak economy in the coming period could be even slightly weaker, while price growth could be even slightly higher. The low vaccination coverage of the population and the low level of compliance with mandated rules have implications not only for people's health and lives, but also for the performance of the economy. This is particularly the case in the service sector.
