Three more cases of the omicron variant of novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Slovakia, the Public Health Office announced on Tuesday. In two cases the persons had been inoculated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, while one of them was not vaccinated.
The first person infected was in a common household shared with persons in whom omicron had already been confirmed after returning from abroad. The second person had no travel history but the infection resulted in clinical signs. The third, unvaccinated person has a confirmed travel history, having returned to Slovakia from Africa.
Given the characteristics of the variant and the recorded incidence in the person without a travel history, it is assumed that the real incidence of omicron in the population is higher than that indicated by the interim results of sequencing positive samples.
