The Government approved a bonus of €350 for people working in social care facilities at its extraordinary session on Friday. More than €15 million has been earmarked for the bonuses. “The first project was paid from EU sources, this will be funded from the state budget," said Labour Minister Milan Krajniak. He estimated that the bonus will be paid to 32,222 employees.
The one-off bonus is in contrast with the requirements of the Doctors’ Unions’ Association (LOZ). In September, LOZ published their recommendations for the improvement of the health workers’ working conditions. One of them was the hike of salaries to the level of the remaining countries of the V4 formation (Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). “The aim is not primarily to have increased salaries. The goal is to motivate people to stay in Slovakia or return from abroad,” said LOZ chair Peter Visolajský.
