Skier Vlhová becomes Slovak athlete of 2021

Slovak Skier Petra Vlhová won the title of the Slovak athlete of the year for the third time in a row ahead of sports shooter Zuzana Rehák-Štefečeková and slalom canoeist Jakub Grigar.

In 2021, Vlhová won the Big Crystal Globe for most points combined in all disciplines. In the Giant slalom, she finished sixth and in the Slalom, she ended third overall, having missed the small Crystal Globe in this discipline in the last race of the season. Rehák-Štefečeková won gold in the Women's Trap at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo and Grigar earned silver in K1 discipline in Tokyo.

The quartet of sprint canoers (Samuel Baláž, Denis Myšák, Erik Vlček and Adam Botek) who earned silver in the K4 500m sprint in Tokyo, won the title for among teams ahead of the men’s National Ice Hockey team. The trio of slalom canoeists (Alexander Slafkovský, Marko Mirgorodský and Matej Beňuš), who brought bronze from the Olympics in the 3xC1 discipline ended third among the teams.

Miloslav Mečíř, Olympic winner in Tennis from 1988 was awarded the title of legend, cyclist Jozef Metelka became the Paralympian of the year, cyclist Martin Svrček was named the Talent of the Year and bodybuilder Vladimír Holota became the best athlete in non-Olympic sports.

The organizers of the World Championships in water slalom canoeing in Čunovo and the organizers of the international Around Slovakia cycling race won the award for providing the best press services in 2021.

The coronavirus pandemic did not allow the results of the traditional poll of the Club of Sports Editors of the Slovak Syndicate of Journalists (KŠR SSN) to be announced at the gala evening.
