Interior Ministry: Illegal migration in Slovakia grew compared to last year

Total illegal migration in Slovakia in January to November 2021 reached a level 46.2 percent higher than in the same period a year ago. According to the Interior Ministry’s press department, the number of foreigners increased from 1,085 to 1,586. On Tuesday (Dec 14) the interior ministers of the Salzburg Forum countries held an online meeting, where they addressed migration issues in the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Balkans. According to Slovakia’s deputy Interior Minister Vendelin Leitner, the current migration waves associated with instability in the world are only a prequel for much greater migratory pressures in relation to climate change. The Salzburg Forum is a Central European security partnership between Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
