Recruiting minority communities awarded

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave his recognition to Whirlpool Slovakia, headquartered in the town of Poprad, eastern Slovakia, for its extraordinary work in the sphere of economic inclusion. The company received the Secretary's Award for Corporate Excellence on Wednesday, December 8.

"Over the past seven years, Whirlpool Slovakia has pioneered an extremely successful program to recruit and retain workers from minority communities, which has encouraged similar recruitment practices in the region," stated the US Ambassador to Slovakia Bridget Brink. As she explained, the company’s inclusive recruitment program has reduced chronic unemployment and improved opportunities in education and training in eastern Slovakia.

The Secretary’s Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) recognizes the U.S. companies that best represent American values and international best practices in their operations overseas. Founded in 1999, this year’s ACE focused on three policy priorities: climate innovation, health security, and economic inclusion.

Whirlpool, which is based in Poprad, has engaged in an inclusive employment program since 2014. Minority employees now make up about 21 percent of the company’s workforce.
