The council of the Trade Union of Workers in Education and Science in Slovakia declared a strike emergency on Tuesday and is calling on the Slovak government to start addressing the unfavorable situation in the field of education without delay. The council calls for a ten percent increase in the salaries of all education and science staff, an adjustment of the tariff tables for non-teaching staff so that it starts with a minimum wage, and the maintenance of existing benefits. If this does not happen, the council claims, social peace will not be guaranteed and education employees will not rule out coercive actions.
