Independent MP asks coalition to support his marijuana decriminalising bill

Independent MP Tomas Valasek (affiliated with non-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia) asked coalition MPs on Tuesday to support his bill to decriminalise marijuana. Valasek underlined that the proposal sponsored by him applies exclusively to marijuana.

The coalition had withdrawn its own bill aimed at introducing lighter punishments for drugs held for one’s own use, as some coalition lawmakers objected to the fact it would have applied also to hard drugs. "Young people but also pensioners who received sterner punishments than murderers, just for using healing lotions, oils for blood pressure or smoking a few cigarettes, cannot be held hostages of the coalition, which has withdrawn its own bill. That's why we call on the coalition to stop the politicking and vote for our bill, so that we can help these people and their families together," Valasek claimed at a press conference on Tuesday.
