As of Monday, primary art schools, leisure centres, language schools, school clubs and out-of-school activities will be closed or will switch to a remote form of education, announced Education Minister Branislav Gröhling to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Schools in Slovakia remain open. According to the Minister, the start of the winter school holidays might be brought forward, with classes ending before the Christmas holidays as early as on December 17.
On Thursday, the Alliance of Secondary School Students called on Gröhling to heed the opinion of experts on a temporary shutdown of schools, adding that students, parents and teachers are concerned about public health.
