A trio of asteroids has been named after Slovak retired biathlete star Anastasia Kuzmina, late Slovak writer and representative of Hungarian literature in Slovakia Lajos Grendel, and Slovak astro-photographer Tomas Slovinsky.
The small astral bodies, which are the latest addition to the family of asteroids with names, were discovered and named by a Slovak-Hungarian astronomical team – Stefan Kuerti from Nove Zamky (Nitra region) and Krisztian Sarneczky from Budapest.
The two astronomers, the former an amateur and the latter a professional, observe asteroids from the Konkoly observatory in Hungary. Interestingly, the two colleagues seldom meet in person when gazing at the sky, as Sarneczky sets the telescope and Kuerti assesses the images from the comfort of his living room.
