Slovakia down in the corruption index list

In 2021, Slovakia fell down by two spots to the 42nd place in the Global Corruption Index when compared to the previous year. Only four other EU countries scored worse – Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.

“Corruption is a global problem that even the most advanced countries cannot avoid,” stated the Whistleblower Protection Office (ÚOO) adding that corruption activities can often only be disrupted by whistleblowers. "That is why it is important to protect them and change the perception of corruption reporting," the ÚOO stated. The Office therefore aims to put anti-corruption tools into practice, thus helping to eliminate the problem. "Therefore, we will closely monitor similar rankings and alert the institutions to the necessary systemic changes," the ÚOO added.
