The most senior representatives of the Catholic Church in Slovakia called for vaccination against the novel coronavirus in their statement, presented via video on Tuesday. The Archbishop of Bratislava, Stanislav Zvolensky, the Košice Metropolitan Archbishop Bernard Bober and the Greek Catholic Archbishop of Prešov Jan Babjak point to the growing number of patients and the overloading of health professionals, and thus a threat to the entire health-care system due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, they ask "to be heard so that the Christian community takes the right step" and call for vaccination.
"Vaccination is a great help to stop the pandemic and save thousands of lives," they stressed, noting that the vaccine protects the vaccinated and those closest to them, and in this connection pointed to Pope Francis' words that "to be vaccinated is an expression of love for your neighbour”.
