Alarming situation in Slovak hospitals

The situation in Slovak hospitals is very serious, with over 2,800 COVID patients in hospital and spare capacity filling up quickly. Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky (an OLaNO nominee) said before the Cabinet session on Tuesday that only a few hospital beds are left for patients who need lung ventilation. The minister has issued an order to limit the number of planned operations. The situation at Slovakia's second largest hospital, the Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Kosice, is alarming. According to hospital spokeswoman Monika Kriskova, almost 90 percent of the beds for COVID-19 patients are occupied, and doctors are being forced to decide who can be connected to technical equipment. In addition, the hospitals in Presov region are also reporting a critical situation. On Monday, only two beds with lung ventilation were still free in the region. Therefore, specialised institutions will have to help provide health care for COVID-19 patients.
