Slovak society is significantly vulnerable in terms of the way public opinion is shaped, according to a Globsec study entitled Vulnerability Index. The document analyses weak spots in eight countries of Central Europe and the Western Balkans in the face of the growing influence of Russia and China. In Slovakia, both domestic and foreign actors exploit this vulnerability profusely, by spreading conspiracy theories or disinformation. The situation is also exacerbated by a relatively low level of trust in state institutions. Overall, Slovakia ranked in the third place behind the Czech Republic and Romania. The relatively positive ranking of Slovakia was attributed to a dynamic civic society, the majority pro-European and pro-Atlantic orientation of political elites, a relatively robust system of personal freedoms, a horizontal distribution of power and a rich media space, representing a broad spectrum of political views.
